2003
Extraordinarily, for someone so keen to keep a record of our activities, there is hardly anything in the archive for this year. We performed in Bolton with the new line-up including Smiley Smacko, but I cannot find any records or references other than those shown here.
However, 2003 was the year in which Promenade Promotions (Prom-Prom) Limited was constituted and registered at Companies House. Prom-Prom remains a social enterprise (ie a not-for-profit company), the aim of which was to harness more formally, the various projects I undertook, which all use historical popular entertainment forms as a means of working in diverse communities. There was little practical difference made regarding how the groups such as The Pierrotters and Poppets Puppet operated under Prom-Prom’s management, but it made it easier to apply for arts funding because there was a coherent pattern to what had otherwise been seen as disparate and discreet projects. The purpose was to demonstrate how the different elements all worked together towards a common aim, as defined in the Memorandum & Articles of Association: “To promote, maintain, improve and advance educational and artistic development, particularly by the production of educational plays, performances and entertainment projects, and the encouragement of the Arts, including the arts of drama, mime, dance, singing, music and films and to formulate, prepare and establish schemes therefore.” (Incorporated 31st October 2003, registration number: 4949029)
